Starting at $33,475, there is an AWD, 325 hp twin-turbo V6 midsize family sedan availablel to you right now! Considering the Fusion is arguably the second best handling econo-midsize family sedan in the world, who do you think can and will match this new niche? For funzies I thought I’d just mess around and find out where the Fusion Sport stands in regards to the only paper numbers that matter to me, best power-to-weight ratio for the lowest price . Then...I got carried away and just started listing everything I thought was either a Fusion cross shop, of enthusiast interest, or just interesting and odd! Have a look!!

For me, the next best enthusiast midsizer is actually a FWD coupe. For $31,175 you can peel away in a 278 hp Honda Accord EX-L V6 Manual Coupe. You’ll also get 18/28 mpg versus 17/26 mpg in the Fusion Sport, and remembering the differences in powertrains and weight (300 lbs less in the Accord or 3,400lbs v. 3,700 lbs), you’ll likely see a 3 mpg difference in average fuel economy with the same driving styles. But now that you have some best case scenario power-to-weight ratios and pricings, who do you think is the closest to making a direct Ford Fusion Sport competitor?

Aside: Nissan should REALLY drop a manaul into the Maxima...

I’d say a nice Buick Regal GS AWD. Not quite as much power but I think they look better and comes with Brembos up front. I can’t wait to see next years redesign as the 17 LaCrosse is quite the looker.

I don't know how the driving dynamics compare, but there's strong incentives on the Chrysler 200 S, which is 295 hp and awd. Could be considerably cheaper!

The answer is obvious. $39,510 gets you into a 400hp AWD Lincoln MKZ which is basically the Ivy league Fusion Sport.

10.48lb/hp

I seriously considered waiting for the Fusion Sport, but I ended up trading in my ST for a Charger R/T with the Road and Track pack. Pretty good bang for the buck, decent gas mileage(without having to use premium), and sounds freaking AMAZING with the Corsa Extreme cat-back I recently installed. Now let's see if I can keep it longer than 1-2 years haha.

May have to snag one of these puppies used in a few years for a DD if Lincoln’s depreciation curve holds. Look good with the design update and that’s more than enough power.

my neighbor recently got one and I gotta say it was a MUCH more striking car to look at than the 5 Series it replaced.

The best competitor for the Ford Fusion Sport will only come in several years time when Mazda launches their next-generation SkyActiv platform - the one they promised they’ll make their Mazdaspeed vehicles with.

The totally non-existent Mazdaspeed6 would ironically be the best competitor despite totally not being a thing at the moment.

Barring that fictiious vehicle, I’d have to agree with you on the Honda Accord V6 model. You could maybe throw in the Chrysler 200S with the V6 and AWD, but I’ve read it handles like ass. Paper wise though, that Chrysler maybe the closest competitor that currently exists due to its AWD feature which no other mid-size offers (except said Fusion).

On a slightly unrelated note, a co-worker of mine just started in his FoST for a new Fusion Sport in Magnetic Gray. It is absolutely classy as fuck looking, lemme tell ya.

Right now you can find an 2015-16 AWD MKZ V6 with under 30k miles for $25-28k pretty easily. If I can get one with that 3.0 turbo for this rate in about 2-3 years that might be a really nice option.

Rumor is that the next generation Regal GS could feature a twin turbo V6. Would be a nice upgrade from my 14 GS with the turbo four.
